About
DnA is a diverse group of directors working in film, television and theater who meet weekly in NYC to explore the craft of directing actors.
We focus on expanding our ability to listen and to communicate effectively with actors. We learn from each other in an environment that supports exploration, creativity and risk-taking for both directors and actors.
DnA Process
DnA operates under a workshop model. Each week, a 2 page scene is selected and cast by our Workshop Coordinator. The actors perform the scene once on their own, and then each attending director is allotted a certain amount of time (usually 10-30 minutes, depending on attendance) to work with the actors on that week’s scene. The directors observe each other’s work and take notes. At the end of the session, the actors give feedback to the directors about what they feel worked and what didn’t. After they leave, the directors spend the rest of the workshop giving each other feedback.
